So i'm picking up on the dr. strangelove mccain storyline..i'm glad susan rice brought it up. it's up to us to get the noise machine going and write write write, and spread spread spread the talking points..
there are ample quotes out there and a pretty great narrative to run and build on-i'm only concerned the media won't really do their job since this narrative conflicts with the mccain is our war hero with so much honor he can't do wrong!!!
this will be short. but i invite you all to create effective, sharp talking points to begin to define mccain in the most dangerous (which he is) way possible. he is unstable, dangerous, trigger-happy... We need a bank of words, sources where of his hotheadedness, videos, testimonies.. all in one place!!
Yesterday a spokesman for Obama was harshly critical of John McCain's rigid opposition to any kind of timetable for a withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq.
"It is hard to understand how Sen. McCain can at once proclaim his support for the sovereign government of Iraq, and then stubbornly defy their expressed support for a timeline to remove our combat brigades from their country," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.
"John McCain is intent on spending $10 billion a month on an open-ended war, while Barack Obama thinks we should bring this war to a responsible end and invest in our pressing needs here at home."
The Obama Campaign needs to expand on this line of attack with a TV ad.
This morning the Wall Street Journal broke the story that Iraq and the U.S. have settled on a timetable for the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq by 2011.
Well well, what do you know! Obama's ideas for a withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq are moving forward, after they were embraced by the Iraqis, who dragged the Cheney/Bush Regime reluctantly into this agreement.
At least that's what Donald Rumsfeld told me. Actually I think it's important to recognize this fact before anything else. It leaves you two options. Gear your campaign to the current electorate or change the electorate. Much has been written about how W was able to change the electorate by appealing to the religious right. If Obama is similarly successful with the youth vote, the African American vote and the disaffected vote, this election will be a landslide. However that is a big if. And make no mistake about it, the Republican party will do everything in its power to discourage turnout in those communities. So it would be foolish to ignore strategies that involve the current electorate.
I have one son. He is a delightful and bright boy. He is a good big brother to his four living sisters. He was huge comfort to my husband and I when we lost his fifth sister a few years ago. According to the latest town hall, McCain wants to bring back the draft.
Either that or he wasn't listening to the lady in the town hall when he agreed with her that we have to bring back the draft to take the burden off our stretched military.
Obama's VP Pick: Kathleen Sebelius; McCain's VP Pick: Mark Sanford. These people are not only on the short list of VP picks, but both were published Bilderberg attendees in 2008. Both also have unusual domain name registrations, and Kathleen Sebelius's name was leaked by a marketing company.
I read the official Bilderberg 2008 report put out by Jim Tucker and American Free Press, which provides analysis of leaked information and published information on the Bilberberg meetings.
Then he spotted Cindy while she on a Hawaii vacation with her parents. Seventeen years younger than him and filthy stinking rich, he tapped her on the shoulder at the buffet table and proceeded to chat her up. Then he left his wife for her.
This, and a recap of Keating 5, is what I've gleaned from the CNN special so far. How about you? Learn anything about Johnny McSame that you didn't know before?
Ooh, now they're showing footage of Cindy high on pills. Good show!
For almost a decade I have been tracking Jack Abramoff and the Culture of Corruption and since I became uid 9214, I’ve written about that work here on Daily Kos. For years, I have been writing about the many ways that John McCain covered-up the Abramoff Scandal.
I could write about how the Obama campaign is taking that fight to Curveball John:
There is more to that story and more reasons why McCain should worry about Jack, but I doubt it would break through the waves of panic shaking the netroots.
Yikes! The polls have tightened. Well, what did you expect?
Take a deep breath. Get a backbone. FOCUS.
It’s time to call out the summer supporters and sunshine campaigners.
You know I try and remain optimistic.
Everyone says not to speak ill of the Clintons for purposes of unity. Well I cant hold my tonuge any longer. HRC doesnt really want to unify.
You know its one thing to claim unity to a group of Obama supporters...but what is she doing to bring her supporters over?
Here is why I am posting this journal, my father, who's to the left of even Ted Kennedy on most issues, gave a generous contribution to John McCain after seeing a CNN special on John McCain's term as a prisoner of war, how he reenlisted even after being shot down, on how he was tortured, and how he refused to be released early because of his father's status inspite of the torture.
The man IS a patriot. And liberals respect them more than conservatives. ANY attempt to smear John McCain about his time as a prisoner of war WILL backfire in a big way. Don't even think about going that route. The man deserves to be respected for his service.
The strategy to win must be based on what a John McCain presidency would look like. Highlight the policies that John McCain openly supports, the ones he openly opposes, and make the campaign about that.
There's a lot of people saying that Obama should go full force personally negative on John McCain, attacking the man's character.
That's a risky, and almost foolhardy path to take.
There is nothing you can say to dimune McCain's character after his refusal to be released from prison early.
And did the Bush Administration conspire to help him?
So what encouraged Saakashvili to make his reckless gamble? Partly it was the ambivalent policy of the Bush administration, which told the Georgian leader one month that "We always fight for our friends" (as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in July in Tbilisi about Georgia's bid to join NATO) and the next month cautioned restraint. And partly it was cheerleading from the pro-Georgia lobby, in which McCain has been one of the loudest voices.
Let's put aside the fact that McCain's top foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, has in fact been a lobbyist for Georgia. In his own feisty comments in recent months, McCain encouraged Georgians to believe America would back them up in a crisis. That expectation was naive, and it was wrong to encourage it. It was especially wrong to give a volatile leader such as Saakashvili what he evidently imagined was an American blank check.
Barack Obama is a neighborhood organizer at heart. He knows the importance of getting boots on the ground and talking to people. He wants volunteers to contact every voter in America and personally deliver his message of hope and change. dday wrote a diary about how Obama’s strategy is not about top down messaging through national ads. He is not trying to change minds en masse but one voter at a time, one contact at a time. Obama is counting on winning through registering new voters and getting them to the polls. Now we have to ask the question, "Will these new voters show up to vote for Obama?"
I just got done reading Gorbachev's column he wrote for the New York Times about the situation in Georgia. I have heard this before about Georgia provoking Russia at this particular moment in time.
You can all call me a tin foil hat, but after reading Mr. Gorbachev assessment of what has happened, and seeing McCain's poll numbers rising, it opens up many questions in my mind.
Pollster is not only a fine site for poll data, but also has top-notch people writing about polls and poll methodology.
As to today's Zogby poll, which has McCain +5 and which has generated a certain amount of Chicken Littleism, Moore at Pollster says it's a very strange poll.
All pollsters, it seems, eventually find themselves with what Andy Kohut once referred to as "loopy" results.
This time, it's Zogby's turn to confuse the masses. His latest Reuters/Zogby poll, based on a sample of 1,089 "likely voters" drawn from listed telephone numbers, conducted Aug. 14-16, 2008, shows McCain over Obama by 46% to 41%.
What makes the poll especially strange, even after taking into consideration that it has screened out whoever they consider to be unlikely to vote, is that it only includes people with listed telephone numbers.
As you all know, today, John McCain talked about how if we want to find Bin Laden, then we have to reinstate the draft.
If you do not want your family members or friends to be drafted in to a war that should have never have entered in to, then I have something for you to do.
I am not a headshrinker, I've never even played one on TV, yet sometimes I believe I can spot a psychological pathology when I see one. Perhaps it's the blind squirrel syndrome.
John McCain is unsuited to be President of the United States in so many ways it's difficult to describe, but my own take is different than anything I've seen or heard anywhere, so I thought I'd share it in hopes it finds some resonance.
