For almost a decade I have been tracking Jack Abramoff and the Culture of Corruption and since I became uid 9214, I’ve written about that work here on Daily Kos. For years, I have been writing about the many ways that John McCain covered-up the Abramoff Scandal.
I could write about how the Obama campaign is taking that fight to Curveball John:
There is more to that story and more reasons why McCain should worry about Jack, but I doubt it would break through the waves of panic shaking the netroots.
Yikes! The polls have tightened. Well, what did you expect?
Take a deep breath. Get a backbone. FOCUS.
It’s time to call out the summer supporters and sunshine campaigners.
Frank Rich, bless him, swings for the fences in this week's column and knocks another one out of the park. Truly, the man shames most of his peers. (Looking at you, Dana Milbank.) This week, he offers a full-throated assault on the myth of McCain the Maverick... and does so with no shortage of facts to back up every single claim. Astounding -- a MSM writer that doesn't bleat the narrative or vomit up pointless blather disguised as "analysis." (Looking at you, Mark Halperin.)
Right now, Fox News is asking me "Which candidate is better handling the Georgia conflict?"
The growing consensus in the media seems to be that it's John McCain. But, if you look at what's going on, it becomes immediately clear that Georgia is a losing issue for McCain.
John McCain is a Corruptionist. For those without a dictionary, that means that he is a politician who has protected and upheld corrupt practices throughout his political career.
His dirty work is obscured by his carefully constructed myth as a "maverick" and his false mask of a reformer. It is all hype. His reputation is built on a twisted web of lies and protected by a legion of well trained sycophants in the media.
Every now and then, a clear portrait of McCain emerges such as last week’s profile in the Phoenix New Times by Amy Silverman, who wrote about the sordid career of the Senator from Arizona—a man she has been covering for years. It is a must read.
Mark it down as yet more data points proving McCain’s deep corruptionist tendencies.
There are many more. His campaign is run by lobbyists and McCain’s bends over backwards to reward the clients of his staff with statements and policy positions.
The corporate media is clearly Rethug-biased, and not just Faux News.
As an Edwards supporter, I am so disappointed in him for cheating on his wife at a critical time. That said, Rudy "Sex On The City" Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, and Rethug presidential nominee John "McBush" McNicotine have received free passes for doing the same thing PLUS dumping their wives to be with a younger and wealthier mistress.
As a Britney Spears fan, I am disappointed about where she has been going the last few years.
Hi there. This is Lee Stranahan writing - I'm using my friend Alan Bernhoft's account to leave this message here. Thanks to everyone who's said nice things in the past few days. I've been reading and I appreciate it.
A few notes on the events that lead to my being banned. A lot of people have said in comments that I was banned because there 'wasn't a shred of evidence!' and many are still saying that.
That's not the case - there was evidence. The reason I was right and they were wrong is that they choose to ignore that evidence and I didn't. And I mean 'ignore' quite literally - they made a decision to not even look at the evidence based solely on it's source.
It's official - John Edwards cheated on his wife Elizabeth; two years ago and he told her about it then and the family has been working through it since. Like many here I empathize with the Edwards family and am actually proud of Senator Edwards for being honest, however belatedly. I'm also disgusted that a private drama within a family has become a public spectacle only to satisfy the insatiable appetite for drama of the mainstream corporate media. Beyond that, however, I could care less about the marital troubles of a couple whom I've never met.
Today, Sen. John Edwards finally admitted that he had the affair that had been alleged by the National Enquirer.
I do not believe that this is a personal affair. I believe that since John was campaigning for public office, while at the same time knowing that he was headed straight for the ice-bergs, shows an incredible disregard for the welfare of the country, the Democratic Party and his supporters.
As a former avid supporter, I am shaking with anger and betrayal. I want my money and many hours spent campaigning back!
I believe we are all owed a huge apology not self-serving claims for pity by both John and Elizabeth Edwards who both knew about the affair and both decided to go forward and seek the Democratic candidacy, regardless of the Titanic risk.
Days before John Edwards suspended his campaign, I donated $50. It took a couple weeks, but I got over the fact that I "donated to a loser," as a colleague told me. It was only money; besides, I supported his policies and I supported him personally as a representative of those who aren't always fortunate enough to have their voices heard.
There is a new wrinkle in the ongoing investigation of the DOJ is that the Justice Department probe (joint Inspector General & Office of Professional Responsibility) that has now fingered at least one White House operative, with a trail that leads clearly to Alberto Gonzales, Karl Rove and perhaps others. Are criminal penalties in the offing?
This is distinct from yesterday's story about politicizing the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ, as diaried here. A third element of the investigation is the prejudicial hiring of career DOJ appointees based on political affiliation or leanings, which was announced a few days ago.
It's hard to decide what to make of the sections in the Higher Education Act reauthorization that target "pay for play" conflicts of interest in the student loan programs.
For many months now friends and family have been urging me to document all I know about the Traffic.com scandal and my three-year effort to "out" it in a book, because this scandal is so involved and has been going on for so long. I've finally taken their advice, and am knee deep in writing a book called, fittingly...
Outing Traffic.com:
How the Internet Proved Invaluable in Exposing Big-Time Fraud and Corruption in Our Federal Government
In what is being widely reported as a shock to the Democratic Party and a major blow to Obama's chances for election, John Edwards, former vice-presidential nominee and current not politician, has visited a hotel, as reported by the National Enquirer.
According to the Enquirer, the other occupants of the hotel included six gay men, seven lesbians, three oil executives, fifteen married women without their husbands, and at least one Tucker Carlson.
John McCain is a Corruptionist. He is a politician who has protected and upheld corrupt practices throughout his political career. The recent trust of his lobbyist laden and Rovian directed campaign is just the latest example from a career that has always been more hype than action, more spin than substance.
John McCain is an empty old man chosen to lead the parade in this cycle when years of lies, corruption and divisive politics are finally catching up with the Republican Party and the conservative movement. McCain got the nod because he has always been trusted to create the illusion of action, while actually doing nothing. When examined, his legislative "accomplishments" are thin and shallow—like McCain himself.
McCain and his fellow corruptionists have one path to victory. They must run the dirtiest campaign in American history. It is ugly and it will get worse. Get ready, because McCain is surrounded by the architects of the Conservative Wrecking Crew destroying our Nation and he is one of them.
For almost a decade I have been tracking Jack Abramoff and the Culture of Corruption and since I became uid 9214, I’ve written about that work here on Daily Kos.
Recently, I came across a major link between Jack Abramoff and the modern Conservative movement that I had over looked.
I have known for a very long time that Jack Abramoff functioned as a Bag-man for the VRWC. I knew his roots went deep—back to the late 1970s, and that much of his work has always been crafted and executed in the shadows. I knew he played a part in the Iran-Contra Affair (working in the basement of the WH with Ollie North) and that he was a lobbyist for the Apartheid era South African Secret Police. I knew he was a dedicated movement conservative who wanted to establish One-Party Rule in the USA. I knew that he almost succeeded.
Hiding in plain sight was that fact that—for the last three decades—Jack Abramoff was also involve in a Domestic Spying program privately run and financed by his fellow co-conspirators on the Right.
